INSTALLATION

OUR EXPERIENCED AND QUALIFIED FITTERS CAN ENSURE A PERFECT RESULT

National Floors is a well established operation covering the whole of the UK. Over the past decade the business has built up a workforce of the highest skilled and most customer focused floor installers in the country.

Every installer is qualified to at least City & Guilds level and has been fully CRB checked.

In addition to that we set our own standards for customer service and for the care of our customer’s homes. We will not make use of any fitters that do not meet these requirements.

We are so confident that every installation will be of the highest standard that we offer a full twelve month guarantee of quality workmanship.

EQUIPMENT

In order for any laminate floor to be successfully laid it is essential that the installation is carried out with a full set of tools and equipment suitable for the job.

Every one of our fitting teams carries all of the essential equipment as well as a supply of suitable spacers and finishing threshold strips.

PREPARATION

It is essential that any room is properly prepared before your new floor is laid.

The space will need to be cleared of all moveable furniture before work commences. This is usually carried out by the customer but if you would like us to do it for you then please talk to us about that when you place your order.

We will remove any dust and dirt from the space and ensure that an existing wooden floor is firmly secured with all nails and screw heads below the surface.

Any newly laid concrete floor must be completely dry. If there are any damp issues then we will advise you on the best course of action.

If your floor is not suitably smooth then again we will advise you and provide a service to level the floor using a special compound.

Underlay

It is important to have the right and the best underlay beneath your new flooring. This material has many properties to protect and enhance your floor. It increases sound proofing and thermal properties. It gives the floor a more “springy” feel to walk on and protects against any rising damp.

Our installers will use the best quality combination underlay which provides all of these attributes.

FLOOR LAYING

Our installers always follow best practice. Boards will normally be laid starting from a corner following the longest wall with the tongue facing the wall. Plastic spacers are placed between the board and the wall at the manufacturer’s recommended thickness. This allows for the proper expansion gap.

Most boards have a built in mechanism that locks them together. Some need adhesive which will be applied were necessary. Boards will always be staggered along each row so that joints are not next to each other.

If there are any pipes in the room the board will be carefully cut to fit (allowing an expansion gap) and the gap behind filled with an appropriate, matching piece.

Where there are any architraves the bottom will be carefully trimmed so as to allow the new flooring to tuck neatly underneath.

FINISHING

Once the flooring is layed the edge spacers are removed and the skirting board replaced. Alternatively our installers will fix a scotia or quadrant moulding over the expansion gap around the perimeters of the room if the skirting has not been removed.

Threshold strips will be fitted in doorways and archways to create a neat connection between the new laminate floor and the other flooring.

The installers will clear up and sweep out the room before giving you advice on looking after your floor.
